A
group leader is the person who made the reservation and is responsible
for leading and communicating the following to the remainder of the group.
Please distribute a copy of this to each person in the yurt party.
Please
note that anyone who is traveling to the hut should read the information
contained below.

Group Leader
Information
1. Your group is reserving the entire yurt. Only 6 persons are allowed
to stay overnight. Maximum duration of the stay by anyone individual shall
not exceed more than 3 consecutive nights and 6 nights total within a
4-week period.
2. Check out time is 12 noon, and check in is 1 p.m.
3. Access to the yurt by non-motorized means only motorized conveyances
used by guests to access the yurt may not come within a mile of the yurt.
4. All trash must be packed out. A metal container for ashes only is located
under the yurt.
5. A map is provided showing the recommended access via the established
lower access road. PLEASE USE THIS ACCESS ONLY, and study the map noting
private land. The yurt is surrounded by privately owned mining claims.
These claims have abandoned mines, test holes and dangerous structures.
Please confine your activities to immediate area around the yurt and the
established roads noted on the map. DO NOT TRESSPASS on or near private
land and cabins. All of the cabins and old structures are privately owned
and prohibit trespassing, "hiking" and "exploring."
Please respect the private landowners. Any violation could be detrimental
to our huts special use permit.
6. Please sign registration book at hut with your comments.
7. Do not leave any food in the yurt. Please pack it out. We have bears
and rodents in this area.
8. Use caution burning an outside fire. Build fires in the metal-screened
firebox only. Completely extinguish fire after use. No ground fires.
9. No parking is allowed on forest service land. Please note the parking
recommended on the attached map.
10. The Hut Handbook" by Westcliffe Publishers is available at bookstores
and a copy is at the yurt. Other books are at the yurt addressing the
natural and cultural history of Elk Park and the mining history of the
surrounding area.
· Tread lightly and
leave no traces
· Even pick up the small items, such as wrappers, duct tape, broken
pieces of gear.
· Stay on the established roads and trails
· Use the toilet provided. If in route, bury excrement at least
6 inches under the soil and carry out toilet paper in a plastic bag.
· Pour dish water down the toilet at the yurt, not on the ground.
· Don't be loud. This is a remote hut, but sound travels! Please
limit consumption of alcohol.
· Don't travel alone. Let others in your group know of your plans.
· No smoking is allowed in the yurt! Please use extreme caution
if smoking outdoors. Extinguish completely and carry out.
· No dogs or other pets are allowed in the yurt
· Snow is melted for drinking water in the winter. A spring and
creek are noted on the map. All water should be boiled prior to use.
11. Please note the hut instructions
at the yurt and operating suggestions for the stoves and lights. A cleaning
and check out list is provided.
12. All use waiver and release agreement forms must be initialed and signed
by each person in the group. We prefer to receive these in the mail.
13. Do not leave valuables in your car when parking at the trailhead.
Unfortunately, break-ins and or vandalism can occur.
14. The hut is equipped with a smoke alarm and fire extinguishers. Please
familiarize yourself and the group with these and the exit door.
15. Please split wood outside on the large stump, not on the breakable
bricks next to the stove. Make sure there is enough restocked wood and
kindling for the next group. Please check that all of the windows are
zipped and inside covers on, skylight closed and door is locked- spin
the tumblers on the padlock.
