Once you have officially made your reservation, you will receive a packet containing detailed directions to the Yurt. In general terms, the trailhead is located about 7 miles north of Black Hawk, Colorado. Black Hawk is typically less than a one hour's drive from Denver and Boulder. The trailhead is located on a county-maintained road. Although you will not need a 4-Wheel drive vehicle to reach the trailhead, a car with good tires and traction will be a must in winter conditions. It is recommended that you bring along a detailed topographical map, a compass, and the knowledge to use both on your trip to the Yurt. You will need the USGS "Central City Quadrangle," which can be purchased at many outdoor shops in the area (REI, EMS, Neptune Mountaineering to name only a few). For a map that includes a larger area, both Trails Illustrated and National Geographic make excellent, laminated, topographical maps.
